Leaving it in menu mode, I guess, or using it to transfer files, etc, will drain the battery after some time.

With the auto power-down, the main battery drain is pretty close to none once the camera goes to sleep. Check your lens and make sure it is switched to “auto” and not “manual” sliding switch near base of lens. Oops, forgot to turn off mirror lockup again.
