amer I also started hating the main character which never happened to me before. Amber finds that life in London kthleen as easy as she thought. I love how she weaves real and fictional characters together so you don’t know who’s who–and you definitely feel like if you were to step in King Charles’ court, you might get swept up into a devious scheme, take a lover, start a new fashion, make an enemy, or take London by storm. True to her ambeg, Amber eventually attracts the attention of the king and sleeps with him twice before his mistress, Barbara Palmer, grows angry and convinces him to stop.
Now, I have to admit, if I met her or someone like her in real life, I would hate her. This was one of my sister’s favorite books, and it took me several decades to finally get around to reading it.

You feel you learn more about Charles II’s era from this book than you ever could through a text book. Amber is an infuriating and frustrating heroine who you can’t help but root for.
