Calkin’s book is pretty standard, but it emphasizes ,agrangian in the conceptual framework of mechanics, and should help you get acquainted with the subject.
Connections with other areas of physics which the student is likely to be studying at the same time, such as electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, are made where possible. Excellent book to compliment Goldstein which suffers from too few worked out examples. Selected pages Title Page.

I know of books by Chow, Mariona and Thorton, Morin and Taylor but all of them seem to take the problem solving approach rather than theortically analyzing the frameworks as well.

The first is essentially a physics book, the second is kind of a bridge between the ca,kin and modern mathematical treatment involving manifolds, and the last three lagrahgian essentially math books. The discussion of topics such as invariance, Hamiltonian-Jacobi theory, and action-angle variables is especially complete; the last includes a discussion of the Hannay angle, not found in other texts.
One of the outstanding features of this book are some of its supplementary discussions such as the one on the Electromagnetic Field and field momentum cal,in chapter three, the discussion of time dilation in general relativity and the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics in chapter four, the connections between Hamilton-Jacobi mechanics, geometrical optics and quantum mechanics in chapter 8, and essentially all of chapter Goldstein not the most modernJose and Saletan, V.
